Let's Celebrate An Environment Friendly Diwali

Image
Diwali: A Festival of Sound and Air Pollution. Probably this is how the coming generations will remember the ' The Festival Of Lights ' as. We would be celebrating Diwali this year in a matter of few days, same as last year, and you're reading yet another post trying to convince you to celebrate this Diwali eco-friendly , same as last year. Each year we celebrate this festival to mark the victory of good over evil which is quite ironic when we ourselves are the villains to mother earth and our future generations , who'll probably blame and curse us for leaving the nature in a dismal state during their lifetime.    Traditionally , Diwali was celebrated by buying new clothes , enjoying various sweets , lighting up houses with lamps and lanterns and was a festival of sharing happiness with family and friends. But over the years, the festival has lost its meaning and has instead turned into a day of peak environmental pollution and excess power consu...

Why More Than 90% Of India's Engineers Are Unemployable?

Image
India is one of the largest producers of engineers in the world. Yet, more than 70% of engineers are unemployed due to severe competition, and by some estimates only 7-8% of engineering graduates are actually employable.  These are the first two lines of the Wikipedia article;  Engineering education in India . Wikipedia Logo Aspiring Minds , an Indian employability evaluation, and certification company revealed that only 7 percent of engineering graduates in India were suitable for core engineering jobs in its National Employability Report 2016: Engineers  after a study on 1,50,000 engineering students. It also revealed that a whopping 97 percent of the engineering graduates wanted jobs in either software engineering or core engineering. However only 3 percent of them possessed the suitable skills to be employed in software or product market, and only 7 percent could handle core engineering tasks. Aspiring Minds is an Indian evaluation and certificatio...

Why I Quit Social Media

Image
A couple of months ago, I was out with a group of friends of mine. We had gathered together probably after a period of more than two years. We hung out for nearly 30 minutes and guess what nearly 25 minutes of the conversation was about? One of my friend showed me his newly created  Instagram page, asking every one of us to follow it, and shared his plans of making money from it. He was quite busy staring down at his phone all the time with sounds of 'hmm' in between. The next friend showed me the number of friends he had on Facebook to establish his popularity and started searching my name on Facebook in order to send me a friend request . Quite ironic right!! Me standing in flesh right in front of him and he wanted to add me as a friend on Facebook. Sharing a laugh while reading funny Instagram posts was a part of that conversation as well. It's been more than a year now since I decided to quit all social media platforms and believe me I've never regr...

How Racism Is Practised In India

Image
' Dark And Lovely ', ' Dark And Handsome ' ever heard of these beauty products. Probably not and neither have I, at least in India. Yup!! Racism , especially on the basis of color, does exist in India and the increasing number of fairness cream commercials on television is a proof to that. Recently, I was watching a fairness cream commercial featuring one of the biggest superstars in the Bollywood industry. In the commercial he suggests a man with a dark skin complexion to use that cream in order to be handsome like him. Then the man is shown using the fairness cream and his confidence level magically reaches sky high and a huge crowd of girls swarm around him. Fairness Scale Now, what does this commercial suggest? In order to be perceived as handsome and be accepted by the society and to be popular among girls, you need to be fair. A fairer skin will boost your confidence and make people admire and respect you.  A dark guy should have poor confidence an...

YouTube Trending Page India

Image
Today, after a period of two months, I decided to check YouTube India's Trending Page hoping to see a lot of changes and watch quality content being featured on the ' Popular Videos in India ' page, but to my disappointment, nothing has changed since the last time I checked it. The same clickbait videos with misleading thumbnails and titles, videos about making people rich with a few cloves and a lemon, the same vulgar pranks, and the same hateful videos. I'm sorry but I can't post the photos of the videos currently trending on YouTube India. It all began in September 2016 with Reliance Jio's Welcome Offer which offered 1 gigabyte of internet data each day free of cost. The move was targeted to introduce the world of internet to a large population of Indians who could not afford the expensive internet data packs offered by other existing companies. Though this move helped to improve India's connectivity to the internet to a great extent but a...

How To Make A Bollywood Movie (Sarcasm)

Image
Hey guys, today we'll be learning how to make a Bollywood movie in a few simple and easy steps but before we begin with the post here's a list of a few things that I'd like to clear up: 1. Bollywood here refers just to the Hindi Film Industry and not the Indian Film Industry as a whole. 2. In this post, I'll be talking about Bollywood in general and not every person in Bollywood falls under that category so obviously there a few exceptions as well. 3. I'm just an 18-year-old teenager who literally has no idea how a Bollywood movie is made but today we try to figure that out. So, first things first: The Script In order to be a scriptwriter in Bollywood, you have to be an expert in the art of leaving your brains home. Yup you read that right because in Bollywood you are not allowed to explore your creative side and write a story with an out of the box new concept as none of the production houses and the so-called mafias will ever fund your ideas. Their...

Everything Wrong with Our Education System - 2

Image
First of all, I am really sorry for ending the last post abruptly. If you haven't read the first part, be sure to check it out by clicking here . Well, continuing with the post, these are the phones that my mother used in the years 2006 and 2016 respectively. As you may notice, in the past 10 years technology has enhanced rapidly and we need to keep ourselves updated if we want to be a part of the present world. So, why not our education system? Learning and memorizing the same things which were a part of the curriculum 10 years ago makes no sense. The curriculum is prepared by a group of people, deciding what millions of kids would be learning while sitting in a room, without any feedback from those whose life gets directly affected; the students . Also, in the recent years, the trend of joining coaching centers for cracking entrance exams has seen exponential growth. The coaching industry in Kota was valued at Rs.300 crore in the year 2013. Parents pressurizing their ki...
